We have Ongo Homes (a social landlord & registered charity), Crosby Employment (local employment & training business), a commercial business and a community-focused business (also a registered charity).
Each part of the business is governed by its own Board. Here is who does what:
Despite an initial career choice of finance, David has enjoyed a long and distinguished career with Humberside Police. Starting in 1982 as a police constable he worked his way up to become Divisional Commander covering both North and North East Lincolnshire until retiring in 2012. David is passionate about organisations and communities working together in partnership and has been delighted with the part this has played in the reduction in the levels of crime and anti-social behaviour over recent years. He sees partnership working as a real strength in North Lincolnshire
David has spent 40 years in Metals, Health Care and Mining sectors, leading and supporting a number of business transformation projects and major organisational reviews. He helped deliver significant change from operational positions, some in very tough environments. For most of that time, David worked for Tata Steel (formerly British Steel, then Corus) and his experience includes M&A activity in the UK, Eastern Europe, France, Germany and the USA as well as operational responsibilities in Western Europe and North America. For the final 5 years of his career with Tata UK, he held the position of Country HR Director. As chair of the Commercial Board he is looking forward to engaging with this exciting new enterprise and leveraging his previous business experience to good effect for Ongo.
Andrew is a CIPFA qualified accountant who has considerable local authority experience, was Assistant Director for Social Services and Housing at North Lincolnshire council and then acted as an employee and then associate of Weedon Grant. Through his project work at NLH Andrew has demonstrated his strategic thinking perspective and his extensive experience of change management. He undertakes a wide range of charitable and voluntary work. Andrew is Chair of the Group HR & Remuneration Committee
Edgar is a Chartered Accountant who for many years has been a member of the Audit and Assurance Faculty and the Tax Faculty of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales. He has spent his working life (latterly as senior partner) in an accountancy, audit, and taxation practice in North Lincolnshire. He also has many years experience in property management. Edgar is Chair of the Group Audit and Risk Committee
Andy is a Chartered Accountant. Since qualifying in 1988 he has worked in the construction and mining sectors and has been Finance director for subsidiaries of several housebuilders including Taylor Wimpey and Ben Bailey Homes. Andy has experience of the not for profit sector having previously been treasurer of the Marine Conservation Society and Lune Valley Rural Housing Association. Andy is currently a contract accountant for a groundwork sub-contractor.
Matthew has worked in housing for over 25 years and between 2001-02 he successfully managed the first housing stock transfer in Wales. He is currently Director of Operations with Boston Mayflower having responsibility for Property Services, Housing Management and Independent Living. Matthew is passionate about housing and has previously held positions with the Chartered Institute of Housing, served as an external examiner on housing courses at two universities and most recently joined the Ongo Homes board.
Daniel Klemm is currently Head of Policy and Communications at the Together Housing Group, one of the country’s largest housing associations with properties across Yorkshire, the North Midlands and the North West. In a varied career across the public and private sectors Daniel has worked for the National Housing Federation, Yorkshire Water, the Homes and Communities Agency and the European Commission.
Bob recently retired after a career in the housing sector for the last 26 years of which he was Group Chief Executive Officer of the Longhurst Group. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Housing and has chaired housing companies and regional committees. He is also Chairman of Bishop Grossteste University. He has been involved in large housing development programmes throughout his career and believes that this is a vital part of the role of our sector to help. Rupert is an experienced Development manager, having worked with Joseph Rowntree, Manningham HA and presently as the MD of Firebird Joint Venture Company (in Communities Group). He has led successfully significant traditional development programmes and is now leading new development activity in Bradford, totalling £125m. He is a Member of the Royal Institute of Architects.
Avril has retired from her role as Auditor for the British Safety Council giving her more time to become involved in community projects and enabling her to join the board of Ongo Homes. She is looking
forward to sharing in the decision process in order to help make improvements for all tenants and feels the experiences from her working life will enable her to contribute in a positive and effective manner
Melvin worked for twenty years in retail for the John Lewis Partnership, Richard Shops, Boots, and T&S Stores where he was a member of the main board for five years. Later he spent almost ten years working for an agency of the Department for Education in a variety of leadership roles, including Chief Operating Officer. His core skill is in IT and he has also been responsible for a variety of other corporate services including HR, procurement, membership, and facilities management. He is passionate about customer service and intends to translate that into doing his best for tenants. Born in Oldham, Melvin is an Oxford graduate who now lives in the East Midlands.
Helen is a values-driven housing professional with 30 years experience of working in statutory and not-for-profit organisations. Currently the Director of Neighbourhoods and Communications for a community-based housing association working in West Yorkshire, she is a passionate advocate of social housing as a tenure of choice and as a foundation to a healthy life. She currently leads on all aspects of housing management as well as health & safety, data protection, equality & diversity and communications but has experience of managing supported housing, maintenance, community involvement and service improvement.
Sarah is a housing professional with more than 20 years’ experience working in the housing sector. She is currently Assistant Director of Communities at Yorkshire Coast Homes and is responsible for the housing management service; financial inclusion, community development and PR and communications. Sarah is passionate about equality, customer service and partnership working. She is also a fellow of the Chartered Management Institute.
Gemma is a Chartered Accountant who currently works as a project manager in higher education. She worked for 10 years as a tax advisor to housing associations and advised on the VAT Shelter arrangements on over 20 stock transfers between 2006 and 2011, so has a particular interest and understanding of large development programmes.
Tom has spent his career in IT, mostly with HSBC in a variety of roles, and now with Leeds Building Society as their Chief Information Officer. He has a degree in Business Studies from Sheffield Hallam University and a Masters degree in IT Management from Sheffield University. Tom is also a Chartered Fellow of the British Computer Society. Having lived in various places in the UK, Switzerland and USA, he now lives in Nottinghamshire with his wife and two young daughters.
Liz has worked in housing for over 25 years in lots of different roles ranging from intensive housing management and regeneration in East London right through to her current role as Chief Executive of Kirklees Neighbourhood Housing. Whilst working for Leeds City Council Liz created the new service which followed the Council’s decision to bring the three Leeds ALMOs in-house and provided strategic and operational leadership for the housing management service to 58,000 homes.
James has worked in economic development and regeneration for 10 years in roles in local government, regional development and most recently for a charity. His work involved developing policy, business plans and delivering significant projects which included The Pods Leisure Centre in Scunthorpe. James’ current job focuses on attracting funding for charitable projects. His successes include developing empty homes projects, funding for parks & playgrounds and community educational initiatives

James is currently a Neighbourhood Sergeant in Humberside Police for Scunthorpe South and has been in the police for the last 13 years. He has lived and worked in the Scunthorpe area for the past 25 years and has an extensive knowledge of the area. James is passionate about seeing positive activities for young people through partnership working. Through his current role James has extensive knowledge of the partnership working approach to problem solving. He also sits as a Local Parish Councillor and governor of a local secondary school.

Erika is a qualified accountant and spent 17 years in the Army. After leaving the Army Erika spent 10 years as a commercial accountant with Cable and Wireless then Telewest now Virgin Media. Erika then worked at the National Archives and then CITB as Corporate Services Director before joining Ongo in 2013. Erika has a wide experience of working in commercial, charity and not for profit companies and is also a Trustee and a member of the fundraising committee of Westacre Arts.
Jan has worked in the voluntary sector since 1998, after leaving the recruitment industry and London in 1995 to have her two children, carrying out a number of roles including Resources Officer with the Pre- school Learning Alliance and Managing Director of Crosby Employment. She has been Chair of Governors at a primary school for 8 years and has been involved in a number of community roles including securing and managing a £100,000 grant to refurbish her local village hall and being a Director of an ex-offender run project, Inspiring Intelligence, in North East Lincolnshire. She is now employed as Community Investment Manager for Ongo Communities where she is passionate about helping our tenants and the wider communities to build better lives
Carol has over 18 years experience in supporting businesses and working with a wide range of people supporting business pre-starts, start-ups, small and medium size enterprises and social enterprise. Carol’s strengths are in business development, social enterprise, training and coaching/mentoring. Carol is a SFEDI Business Advisor and Social Enterprise Advisor helping to support new and established businesses and those who wish to become self-employed. Carol is actively involved in her local community working on regeneration and development of the area.

Neville is a management consultant with more than 35 years experience in building construction in a wide variety of contract and procurement roles. As a Chartered Surveyor he has worked with Local Authorities, Housing Associations and Arms Length Management Organisations on the strategic delivery of all aspects of property asset management, specialising in the field of social housing
Richard is an ACCA qualified accountant who has worked in several diverse companies throughout his career, including LA Fitness, ECO Plastics and Morrisons Supermarkets. He is now Management Accountant at PD Logistics in Scunthorpe. His skill set includes finding improvements and efficiencies in working practices and implementing practical change to promote long term growth and stability.

Kevin has over 38 years of experience in the UK electricity supply industry in roles such as Killingholme Plant Manager, Group Manager to Global HSE Manager for E.ON. Taking early retirement in 2013 he formed his own company. He is a Chartered Engineer, a Fellow of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers and a licensed NLP Practitioner. A registered STEM Ambassador Kevin spends voluntary time in local schools helping children understand the importance of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). Kevin is also a member of the Wrawby Post Mill Preservation Society, using his mechanical skills and knowledge to help preserve our industrial heritage.
