We're on the move
We've begun the move into our new Scunthorpe town centre headquarters, Ongo House.
Ongo House is part of a £60million regeneration scheme by North Lincolnshire Council to bring new commercial opportunities and housing into the town centre.
The building, developed by North Lincolnshire Council with Scunthorpe-based firms Britcon and British Steel, provides office accommodation for over 120 of our headquarters staff in a modern, bright, open-plan working environment.
The lease on our previous headquarters, Meridian House, on Normanby Road, Scunthorpe, expires in June 2018.
Our customer centre, currently on Cole Street, Scunthorpe, will also move to Ongo House later in June. The Cole Street building will then become our employment support and recruitment centre, later in the summer.
The new HQ provides long-term savings on lease costs for us and is designed to modern efficiency standards, reducing the amount currently spent on energy and maintenance bills at Meridian House.
Steve Hepworth, our Chief Executive said the move also demonstrates our long-term commitment to Scunthorpe as a place to work and live.
“We considered several existing, and some potentially new, sites when looking for a new headquarters but for us there were three important criteria,” said Steve.
“We needed somewhere easily accessible for our customers, on foot and by public transport, somewhere that would be efficient to run and offer better value for money and somewhere that helped our local economy. Ongo House was the only option that met all three criteria.
“This is a really exciting move for us. We have a great new building for our staff and customers and we look forward to seeing the continued investment in this area of the town.”
Cllr Rob Waltham, Leader of North Lincolnshire Council, added: "The building looks imposing and fits well in Church Square, right in the heart of the town.
“Along with the extension to Church Square House, this will bring hundreds of office workers into the town, giving it a real boost.
"It is part of our £60m plans to regenerate the town in a private and public sector investment. Already we can see the project taking shape with the completion of Scunthorpe Central in a £1m internal refurbishment to create a one-stop-shop of services for the local community. And with the new Ongo HQ ideally situated, we can start to see the benefit of having several organisations working together in close proximity."
