Celebrating Older Peoples Day
On Friday 30 September staff and residents celebrated Older Peoples Day with activities across North Lincolnshire.
Activities were organised at Lincoln Court, Scunthorpe, and Horsefair Paddock, Brigg, with tenants from Wold Court, Wrawby and Broadlands House, Bottesford, joining in the fun too.
The aim of the day was to encourage residents from different schemes to get together and have fun getting to know each other and Ongo staff. Games were organised between the different sheltered and retirement schemes, including darts, dominoes, hula hooping, online bowling and quizzing.
Tea and cake were also served.
UK Older Peoples Day celebrates the contributions that older people make to society and the economy.
The day is an opportunity to promote positive attitudes towards ageing and to hold celebration events across the country.
Helen Wright, Support Services Manager at Ongo, said: “We wanted to get involved with Older Peoples Day as it is a great opportunity for our staff to get together with some of our older residents and put on games and activities for them.
“Social isolation is something we work really hard to tackle, and holding events like these is a great way to get our residents together, especially those that might not have friends or family.
“Getting the different schemes to compete in challenges against each other was a different way to engage with people and it was a brilliant success. We’ll definitely look to do this again next year and involve even more people.”
