We are aware of a major house fire that has happened today (Friday 14 April 2017) at Durston Court, Scunthorpe. This home is owned by Ongo Homes and rented to a family.
Local reports suggest that all family members, including a disabled daughter, managed to escape from the property. We sincerely hope they are all unharmed and all our thoughts are with them at this devastating time
We will now be doing everything we can to provide the appropriate support to the family and, along with the local authority’s Housing Advice Team, help them find temporary accommodation.
We were first alerted to the incident at about 1345hrs when one of our customer advisors received a telephone call from an officer at Humberside Fire and Rescue.
On receiving the authority from fire officers, we have attended the house to board up the windows and make it secure.
However, we urgently appeal to local residents, and in particular parents, to ensure their children are kept away from the area as the house is severely damaged and poses a danger if anyone enters the property or grounds.
A Housing Officer has also attended the scene and spoken to neighbouring tenants to check on their welfare and ask if they need any help.
We don’t know what the cause of the fire is at this time and it may take some time to establish by fire investigators.
We will continue to do everything we can to ensure the family receive the support they need.
