No more knives event in Scunthorpe

On Wednesday 11 December The Arc in Westcliff, Scunthorpe will hold an all day no more knives event, with award winning children’s Author Christina Gabbitas.

No more knives is a project set up by Christina in partnership with the Police Crime Commissioners Office of Humberside, to raise awareness of the danger of knives, and tackle the national issue of rising knife crime.

On the day there will be information and support for all ages, with a visit to Little Owls Nursery based within The Arc, stories from Christina throughout the day and a free lunch for local people.

Fran Rhodes, Estate Coordinator here at Ongo said: “Although there will be fun activities throughout the day, the message behind it all is very important and we’re proud to be doing our bit to raise awareness.

“Knife crime has risen in our region over the last five years, so we want to let the community know that we’re here to support them if they are affected in any way.”

There will also be a chance for children aged between 10-18 to create poetry, rap, a story or illustration that best describes the topic of knife crime, gangs and county lines. The winner will receive £200 worth of sports vouchers, record their artwork on the Beats Bus Hull, have it published and meet Commonwealth Boxing Champion, Tommy Coyle.

Christina Gabbitas, Author and Honorary Member of the NSPCC Council commented: “Educating young people about this topic is vital, and it’s something I’m very passionate about.

“I am delighted to be visiting The Arc, and can’t wait to meet everyone and get them involved in our project.”
