“We can help you into work”

Staff from our Employment Support team and Job Centre Plus in Scunthorpe has helped a local man into employment, taking the total number of people supported through our partnership, to more than 300 since 2017.

Our employment support team offer one to one sessions, life coaching, training, CV building, mental health support and guidance to overcome other barriers into work.

After being referred to us in July 2019, Mohammed Alamabad was given a dedicated work coach to improve his employability skills, attend Maths and ESOL classes and become job ready. He has also benefited from 1-2-1 Life Coaching.

We also arranged an eight week work placement at Grange Park, Scunthorpe, where Mohammed learnt vital skills and experience, later helping him secure paid work at The Sauce Company in Scunthorpe.

He is continuing to up-skill with training, and is aiming to qualify as an Electrician.

Mohammed, who is also one of our tenants said: “I previously worked as an Electrician but after being told that my qualifications were not valid here, I suddenly found myself out of work”.

“I can’t thank Ongo and Job Centre Plus enough, their support has helped me get my life back on track and I can now support my family with a stable income. If you’re out of work, I would recommend getting in touch with them or asking the Job Centre for a referral.”

Chris Baker, Wellbeing Manager here at Ongo said: “Mohammed has been a pleasure to work with and is a great example of how working with other organisations, like Job Centre Plus, benefits local people.

“Our mental health support, which is funded by Job Centre, is really helping to change lives too. If you’re unemployed, we can help you into work so please get in touch with us to find out more.”

Anne Brewster, Employer and Partnership Manager at Scunthorpe Job Centre said: “What a great, positive story about Mohammed.  This shows the excellent benefits of coming together to use the best skills of each organisation to support customers.

“Clearly was eager to take opportunities open to him and even now is looking to progress his career.  I wish him well on his journey.”
