We’re encouraging kind acts across our neighbourhoods

In light of random acts of kindness day approaching on 17 February, our Raising Aspirations team are holding a competition that encourages young people below the age of 17 to take part in kind acts for a chance win a £20 hamper filled with treats.

Raising Aspirations is a project that sets out to increase aspirations, confidence and self-esteem in young people.

The team aim to increase young people’s wellbeing through positive after school and holiday activities, one to one mentoring as well as through training and support.

Jemma Ackers-Jacklin, our Youth Mentor, said “We believe the world needs more kindness, which is even more evident due to the pandemic. Being kind and doing something for others actually increases our own wellbeing as well as helping the person involved.

“This is a great opportunity to show your kindness to someone and get recognised for your efforts! Can you help a parent with the washing up or deliver a ‘thinking of you’ letter to a neighbour? Whatever it is you decide to do be creative!

“Recognise how you feel afterwards and how much it has positively impacted that person. As a Youth Mentor it is an important message to send out to individuals and a great way to engage young people whilst we are still unable to run youth activities.”

This competition has been funded by the Tribune Trust and Barton Tesco. The Tribune Trust is a registered charity that makes grants to help groups and communities reduce crime and make their areas safer. The Trustees are especially keen to support initiatives involving young people.

Have you done a kind act or know someone who has? Why not enter our competition here. To enter, simply fill in the online form, you have till 21 February to submit your entry and remember, please follow government guidance when carrying out you acts of kindness.

Good luck and be sure to share you kind acts on social media too. Please note picture is pre-Covid.
