We're supporting Re-Start a Heart Day with more first aiders in the community

From Monday 11 October, we are running a full week of vital first aid training for colleagues working out and about in different neighbourhoods, as part of Re-Start a Heart Day.

The course will provide an accredited, level two award in basic life support for adults and children. It is hoped that by training as many teams up during the week as possible, there will be more first aiders within communities to help those in need.

Re-Start a Heart Day was created by The Resuscitation Council UK, the British Heart Foundation, British Red Cross, St John Ambulance, NHS Ambulance Service and Saving Lives for Scotland. As part of this, in 2019 an amazing 291,000 people were trained in CPR.

We are running 10 sessions, with space for 100 colleagues in total to get trained up.

Marie Riggall, Health and Safety Advisor at Ongo said: “We are absolutely delighted to be celebrating such an important event by offering even more people lifesaving skills.

“We want as many of our staff as possible to be first aid trained, so that they have the knowledge of what to do when faced with a medical emergency. This will help other colleagues, our tenants, customers and members of our community.

“Lots of our staff are already trained but this is the first time we’re running so many courses in one week and we’re so excited.

“We’re hoping it’ll go down really well and in future can grow it even further, getting other people involved too.”
