Ongo staff complete Sahara trek for charity

Four of our staff successfully completed a Sahara Trek Challenge, raising vital funds for the Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance.

The trek, took place between 28 September and 6 October, saw a group of 27 people spend five days trekking through the largest desert in the world in a fundraising effort for the Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance.

It was 100km in total and the group endured tough conditions, basic living and no home comforts for the duration of the trip.

Our team raised £12,000 which will help toward the Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance fundraising target for the year.

Lavinia Freeman, Ongo Talk Manager, said: “It was a huge honour to raise money for such a worthy cause, and it was extremely tough at times but to work together as a group to complete this challenge was amazing.

“The heat was unbearable at times and I often had to fight my internal voice of doubt and panic, but having such a great group of people supporting one another throughout the trip really got us through.”

Fran Rhodes, Regeneration Coordinator at Ongo, said: “Knowing we were raising money for the Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance which is such a fantastic cause really kept us going throughout the trek.

“We experienced a heat wave while we were in the desert and that really tested us, but we all supported each other and gelled so well as a group to keep motivated in the difficult conditions.”
