About the area

This brand new 3-bed property is located in Scunthorpe's Brat Hill Farm estate, not far from a major supermarket, restaurants, shops, local schools and children’s park. It's near a number of bus routes as well as being in a great location for motorway links.

Nearby, you will find excellent shopping facilities including a retail park where you will find a DIY outlet with garden centre, food outlets, a large supermarket and petrol station and much more. There is a local primary school within walking distance, which has been rated as 'Good' by Ofsted. Scunthorpe also has plenty of great secondary schools and two colleges.

In the town, you will find plenty of sports facilities such as football clubs, golf courses, martial arts clubs, speedway racing and a leisure centre. You are spoilt for choice with quality restaurants, takeaways and numerous pubs. There is plenty to do in Scunthorpe with the Baths Hall theatre and a multi-screen cinema. Nearby are several villages and towns, as well as the cities of Hull and Lincoln, where you will find additional entertainment, sports and shopping facilities.

Indicative costs

This property is available as part of a shared ownership scheme only. Shared ownership is delivered by Ongo Homes to help people buy their own home who might not be able to afford it otherwise. An affordability assessment will determine what share you can afford ranging from 25% - 75% of the market value, using a deposit and paying a mortgage in the usual manner. Rent is also paid on the remaining percentage of the house that Ongo Homes still owns a share of. You can then build up your share to eventually own 100%.

To find out more about shared ownership and how it works, just click here.

In the below table, you will find some indicative mortgage and rent costs, depending on the percentage you are looking to buy. This is based on the assumption that you have a 5% deposit available (though a lower or higher deposit would also be accepted). Please note, these prices do not include additional annual charges for buildings insurance and a management fee.

Percentage of property owned Monthly mortgage cost (estimate*) Monthly rent (estimate*)
25% £193 £223
50% £412 £149

The above is based on the following:

  • mortgage term of 25 years with an interest rate of 6.5%
  • 5% deposit
  • annual income of £20,000

These figures do not consider any pension contributions, loan payments, outstanding debt or additional income and should be used as a guideline only. Ongo Homes will encourage prospective buyers to purchase the maximum share possible according to an affordability assessment. These figures also do not include recharges for buildings insurance or management charges which you will also be obligated to pay if you become a shared owner.
