Shop signs up to new precinct

TESCO’S One Stop convenience store has confirmed it will be moving into the new Westcliff precinct.

The precinct is being replaced as part of a £9million homes and retail regeneration scheme which is starting this month (October 2016).

Residents are being reassured that the Co-op store, which is currently on the site, will stay open until the new shop is ready in March 2018, guaranteeing that people will not be left without a local store. Talks are also taking place to secure a pharmacy and post office in the site too.

Pete Stones, our Director of Regeneration, said: “We know how important the local shop, pharmacy and post office are to local people, particularly those without transport, and more elderly residents. It has always been our intention to meet the needs of the local community and work with retailers to provide facilities which are much better than before.”

“I want to reassure residents that we are working really hard to try and secure a pharmacy and a post office as part of the new scheme. We will post regular updates on our website.”

The regeneration of the Westcliff precinct will include 41 new homes, a large One Stop grocery store, five other shops, a community hub for local clubs and events, and a play park for youngsters. The expected timescales are:

  • Work to start on site for the hub and retail units in October 2016
  • Work to start on site for the housing scheme in January 2017
  • Completion of the hub and retail units in January 2018
  • Demolition of the exiting precinct in March 2018
  • Completion of the housing scheme in March 2018

Fire drill notice

At 6.30pm today (21 June) we will be carrying out a pre-planned fire drill at Trent View House flats, in Scunthorpe. This drill was planned as part of our routine fire safety procedures. Everyone living at Trent View House has been made aware that this is just a drill. Following the fatal fire at Grenfell Tower, and after careful consideration, we have decided it is important to go ahead with the drill. We wish to inform the wider community that should they see activity at Trent View House that there is NO cause for alarm.
