We've saved over £3 million

SAVINGS worth more than £3 million have been made by staff at Ongo Homes.

This is just one of the headlines in our latest Value for Money Statement.

Finding ways to drive down costs and increase efficiency are central to our purpose of reinvesting into local communities.

Our Chief Executive Andy Orrey said: “If we can do things more efficiently it means we have more to put back into supporting people, improving environments and building new homes.

“That is the purpose of Ongo’s housing and commercial services.”

The savings come from the implementation of new technology, service improvements, the renegotiation of contracts and a small reduction in staff.

They help offset a reduction in income resulting from last year’s surprise Budget announcement of a 1% rent reduction for housing association tenants.

The Value for Money report, which is produced each year for the Government’s Homes and Communities Agency, shows that almost 92% of Ongo tenants said their rent provided them with value for money.

And it shows the social and environmental value that Ongo has brought to the local area and economy too.

“Our employment support team helped 179 people into work and created 36 apprenticeships last year,” said Mr Orrey. “We were also awarded about £400k in grant funding for energy efficiency schemes in our homes, which benefit both the tenants and the environment.”

Customers have been working with Ongo staff to identify where service improvements and efficiencies can be made, through workshops and the formal Resident Scrutiny Panel, which inspects specific services annually.

“Customers continue to play a vital role in helping us understand where we need to invest and where we can streamline services so that we have more money available to reinvest in homes and communities in future years,” added Mr Orrey.
