Social Value in Procurement
We believe that every procurement decision we make has the potential to create lasting benefits for the communities we serve. By embedding social value into our procurement processes, we ensure that contractors and suppliers contribute to a fairer, greener, and more inclusive society while helping us deliver high-quality homes.
We want to integrate social value into all procurement activities, ensuring our purchasing power supports local economies, promotes sustainability, and enhances the well-being of our residents to leverage social value opportunities though our procurement and supply chain to create substantial social, economic, and environmental value for our tenants, communities, and stakeholders
We know that by linking communities and partners with social value through our supply chain, they can be better resourced to deliver support and increase capacity where it is needed most.
Social Value refers to the additional benefits that an organisation can create for society through its operations, procurement, and services. In the context of our procurement, social value covers a broad range of outcomes, from environmental sustainability and employment opportunities to community well-being and social inclusion.
Social Value refers to the wider financial and nonfinancial value created by an organisation through its day-to-day activities in terms of the wellbeing of individuals and communities, social capital created and the environment. Social Value is the best measure to truly understand the impact and additional value of how our work benefits tenants and communities
Our Commitment to Social Value
We aim to go beyond the delivery of homes by ensuring that our procurement decisions:
- Support local employment and skills development.
- Promote environmentally sustainable practices.
- Foster community well-being and cohesion.
- Provide opportunities for disadvantaged groups.
By working closely with contractors and suppliers, we ensure that each procurement activity aligns with these principles, contributing to our mission, that everything we do supports and enhances local people and the communities in which they live
We will contribute to the well-being of our tenants, their families, and the wider communities, while also achieving our organisational goals. For us, social value is a fundamental part of our responsibility and how we improve opportunities for all: for our customers, service users, employees and communities, whilst taking into account the wider economic, social and environmental impact of our actions. Our approach is rooted in our beliefs and how we do business, creating purpose led economic-based initiatives.
We are committed to enhancing social value in our community through strategic procurement practices. Our goal is to leverage purchasing power within our supply chain to support local communities, promote sustainability, and foster inclusive economic growth.
Our aim is to create social value in everything we do and in developing and delivering this plan, we are demonstrating our commitment to embedding social value across the organisation, making it intrinsic to all we do.
We encourage our contractors to embrace social value and incorporate it into their operations and project delivery. Our organisation is committed to delivering meaningful social value and achieving measurable Social Return on Investment (SROI) through the use of the HACT Social Value Toolkit. As part of this procurement, we require suppliers to actively contribute towards these goals by working with us to unlock social value that aligns with our SROI objectives. Please refer to our Social Value Procurement framework for more information and guidance.
As part of our procurement process, we are committed to ensuring that suppliers deliver tangible social value in line with the Public Services (Social Value) Act 2012, and the UK Government’s National Procurement Policy Statement (NPPS). When bidding for contracts, we expect suppliers to demonstrate how they will maximise Social Return on Investment (SROI) and align with our target of generating at least £5 social value for every £1 spent under this contract.
