The Benefit Cap

The Government has put a cap on how much benefit a single person or couple is entitled to, if they are of working age. This means the amount of benefits they receive is limited to £500 per week for couples and single parent households. This is limited to £350 per week for single adults.

The following households will be exempt:

  • Households that include a member who is receiving Disability Living Allowance, Attendance Allowance or Constant Attendance Allowance
  • Where the claimant/partner receives some Working Tax Credit
  • Those getting the Support Component of Employment and Support Allowance
  • Those in receipt of a War Widow Pension
