Did you know we have a Neighbourhood Services Team? They're always out and about making sure the areas around your home are kept safe, clean and tidy. They work in partnership with other agencies and supervise & mentor volunteers to increase their employability skills.
The Neighbourhood Services Team is also responsible for the management of the grounds maintenance contract and they oversee all grass cutting and hedge/shrub maintenance. See more about our grounds maintenance service here.
The team also oversees all minor aids & adaptations and assists the Maintenance Team with gutter cleaning/gutter repairs. They are also responsible for keeping all Ongo retirement schemes and corporate buildings clean.
To find out more about our Neighbourhood Services Team, take a look below.

We also have a team of cleaners responsible for keeping Retirement schemes, high rise blocks and our corporate buildings clean.
Minor Aids & Adaptations
The Neighbourhood Services Team undertake minor aids and adaptations works that assist our North Lincolnshire tenants to live independently. These works are completed on the back of a referral from the Occupational Therapy Team and cover things such as grab rails and chair/bed raisers.
If you feel like this is something you need, you can be referred to Occupational Therapy by your GP, the hospital, a District Nurse or a Carer. You can also contact the North Lincolnshire Occupational Therapy team yourself on one of the numbers below:
- Scunthorpe North and Isle of Axholme: 030 3330 6802
- Scunthorpe South: 030 3330 6804
- Brigg and Barton: 01724 298180
If you are unsure of which locality number would be best suited to you, all locality teams will be able to redirect you to the correct number, so it isn’t a problem.
If you are outside of North Lincolnshire, it is best to contact your local authority first to see what minor aids and adaptation services are available in your area, as all local authorities have a legal obligation to provide this type of service to their residents.
The Neighbourhood Services Team also assists the Maintenance team with gutter cleaning and gutter repairs of all Ongo properties. To book a gutter repair, please raise this in the same way you would raise any other Neighbourhood Services enquiry. (phone, website, facebook etc)
If you've found something you think needs sorting in your neighbourhood then please get in touch with us.
You can also report these things via My Home, your online tenant portal.
What does the Neighbourhood Services Team do?
Our Neighbourhood Services Operatives work for you to ensure the areas around your home are kept clean and tidy. This could be by removing graffiti, litter picking, looking after communal entrances or maintaining your car parks.
The Neighbourhood Services Cleaning Operatives work on a fortnightly rota and check all blocks of flats which have an internal stairs and landing every two weeks. If they identify fly-tipping they'll remove it, they check for any faults or hazards, remove hazardous items and clean the internal stairs, windows and landings.
The Concierge Team are based at Market Hill and complete fire safety checks of a number of communal blocks, including all 4 high rise blocks in Scunthorpe.
How are you linked to the Council?
In 2007 we broke away from North Lincolnshire Council. All of our caretakers and cleaners are employed by us. While we still do work in partnership with the Council, we are our own organisation.
Who are the people we often see working alongside the Neighbourhood Services Team?
We often have volunteers from our Employment Support Team, who join an eight week programme to enhance their skills and gain experience to hopefully help them gain employment.
You may see them working alongside our Neighbourhood Services Team to improve your estates.
Our operatives are responsible for supervising both them and community payback workers.
How can I dispose of my old settee?
If the settee is in good condition, there are a number of furniture reuse schemes in the North Lincolnshire area that you can take advantage of to avoid bulky items going to landfill.
For more information see the NLC website here
If the settee is not in good condition you can use North Lincolnshire Council’s free bulky item collection service, where you are entitled to one free collection, of up to three items, within a 12 month period (e.g. if you book a collection on 14th May, you will not be entitled to your next free one until 14th May the following year.)
If you have already used your free collection, NLC will charge £21 for each following, future collection (whether a future collection is for just one item, or the maximum three items, the cost will be £21)
How do I ask for a new bin?
Bins are supplied by North Lincolnshire Council so you will need to contact them on 01724 297000, via their website www.northlincs.gov.uk or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Who empties my contaminated bin?
All tenants are responsible for their own bins, if these are contaminated it will be your responsibility to clear them.
If you need more information on recycling to avoid your bin being refused, you can visit the North Lincolnshire Council website at www.northlincs.gov.uk or request a leaflet be sent to you with all the information.
Who do I report faulty external lights to?
Report all faults within your communal areas to our call centre by contacting us here and the Ongo repairs team will come out to fix it for you.
