£1,000 for Barton baby group
The Viking Centre community centre in Barton upon Humber has been awarded £1,000 from Tesco’s Community Grants initiative to improve their parent and baby group.
Tesco Community Grants fund thousands of local community projects across the UK each year, helping to fight holiday hunger, tackle mental health, support young people, host community events and more.
The Viking Centre opened in 2015 and has gone on to run a number of successful programmes, provide free activities for young people, open a community café and support local people with Employment/Volunteer opportunities.
The centre has also been recognised nationally for its work winning an award at the Groundwork Community Awards.
Money awarded from Tesco will be spent on employing a qualified crèche worker for 20 weeks, along with supporting their Tea Time club until March 2022. This offers families in the area the chance to eat healthy meals for free, whilst learning about nutrition.
Marie Merrison, at Viking Centre said: “We are over the moon to have come second in the latest Tesco Community Grants, it means so much to us all as we know the difference it will make.
“We’ve received lots of support from Tesco over the years and are very grateful for everything they’ve done for our community. The £1,000 will really help with projects that are needed in the area.
“It’s great for us to be back in action, welcoming more and more people back to our activities and events. If you live in the area, be sure to pop in and get involved.”
Since opening its doors back up after the pandemic, the Viking Centre has been busy with summer holiday activities, and offering a range of services to the local community.
Following on from their Halloween success the team are busy planning for a magical Christmas of fun.
