Brand new dementia care scheme in Scunthorpe

Brand new dementia care scheme in Scunthorpe Image

Work has started on a brand new £4.4million specialist dementia care scheme on Warwick Road, Scunthorpe, which is the first of its kind in North Lincolnshire.

This Ongo and North Lincolnshire Council development is made up of 25 two bedroom apartments, and communal spaces for residents to socialise and relax.

Along with the dementia friendly layout of building and modern design, specialist features include safe and secure landscaped gardens, CCTV and staff on hand 24 hours a day. This will support families to live together for as long as possible, instead of moving into residential care and introducing unwelcome change.

The scheme also adopts Housing our Ageing Population Panel for Innovation (HAPPI) principles.

We have invested over £3m in the scheme, £1m was granted from Homes England and North Lincolnshire Council has contributed around £300,000.

Steve Hepworth, Chief Executive here at Ongo commented: “With an aging population and lack of suitable housing for people living with a dementia diagnosis, this is a really important project to be involved in.

“The design means tenants can receive the support they need, whilst continuing to live in their own home, which is so important for families affected by Dementia. It will improve and truly change the lives of future tenants.

We will continue to work alongside North Lincolnshire Council to provide ongoing support and personal care.
