Garden party in the sunshine to celebrate five successful years of Myos House
Around 50 residents, family members, colleagues and community partners came together to celebrate the fifth anniversary of Myos House at a special garden party held at the dementia care scheme on Warwick Road, Scunthorpe.
The event marked five years since the opening of the facility, which provides independent living alongside tailored care and support for people living with dementia and Alzheimer’s.
A highlight of the event was a performance from Starlight Arts, who provided fantastic entertainment and had guests singing along and smiling throughout the afternoon.
Traditional garden games, refreshments and a memory board celebrating the people and stories that have shaped the Myos House community over the past five years added to the celebrations.
DS Project also played a key role in making the event possible, generously supporting the day and providing cakes for everyone to enjoy.
Residents spoke warmly about the sense of community at Myos House and the opportunities available to socialise and build friendships.
Marion, who lives at Myos House with her husband who has Alzheimer’s, said: “It’s a wonderful place for anyone living with dementia or Alzheimer’s and the facilities are good too.
“We used to live on the Isle of Axholme, but things were getting inaccessible for us. Here, we can get into town and access everything we need, and we’re not isolated.
“It’s the perfect place for us and I feel much safer and more relaxed living here in such a nice environment.
“I enjoy the social events and celebrations like today. I run a Knit and Natter group every Tuesday and it’s greatly popular. It’s nice to get together, mix with others and see different people.”
Anita Catley, Dementia Scheme Officer at Myos House, said: “It was wonderful to see so many people come together to celebrate this important milestone. The afternoon was filled with laughter, music and friendship, which is exactly what Myos House is all about.
“We’d like to thank everyone who attended, as well as Starlight Arts and DS Project for helping make the day such a success. It was a fantastic opportunity to reflect on the last five years and celebrate everything we’ve achieved together.”
Opened in 2021, Myos House provides 25 two-bedroom apartments alongside purpose-built communal spaces designed to support people living with dementia, helping residents maintain their independence while accessing care and support when needed.
The anniversary celebration was a fitting way to mark the scheme’s success, bringing together residents, families, colleagues and partners to celebrate five years of community, support and friendship.
