The first independent business run by a young local business woman, located at the brand new Westcliff Parade in Scunthorpe is due to open at the end of April.

Heidi’s is a hairdressers, barbers, tanning and beauty salon owned and managed by Gwen Johnson.

Gwen Johnson, said: “I am very excited to be opening Heidi’s. It has always been my goal to own my own salon and I’m looking forward to welcoming both new and existing customers and to see where this venture takes me.

“The salon includes hairdressers and a barber, beauty, tanning, make up and nails and is set to open its doors on 28 April.  I am very grateful to have this opportunity to work in the Westcliff Community, providing job opportunities and helping local people wherever I can.”

Alongside Heidi’s will be the One Stop convenience store, Coop Pharmacy, two other independent retailers and The Arc. It is part of a £9million project which also includes the building of 41 new homes in the area.

Jan Williams, Head of Community Investment, said: “We’re really excited to be able to offer young, local entrepreneurs the opportunity to open their own shop on our new development in the heart of Westcliff.

“The whole new development will offer local people a range of services and facilities right in the heart of their community, as well as offering local businesses a base to hire out meeting and training rooms to host events, training sessions and workshops in The Arc.”

“We wish Gwen the best of luck with her exciting business venture and can’t wait to see all the shops and The Arc open ready for a busy summer.”
