International Friendship day: get involved!

International Friendship day: get involved! Image

International Friendship day takes place every year on 30 July. It’s a day that was created by the United Nations to appreciate and promote friendships from all backgrounds.

So, here’s what we’re doing to celebrate.

The Viking Centre in Barton upon Humber are holding a friendship bracelet workshop on Wednesday 27 July, and they are asking local children to create a friendship flower, by decorating a petal to be added to the wall.

The Arc in Westcliff is also holding a friendship bracelet workshop on Friday 29 July as part of their calendar of summer holiday events for locals to get involved in.

A special buy one, get one free for your friend offer is running at both The Arc and Viking Centre. The offer at the Viking Centre is for any drink for the whole of Thursday 28 July and if you’re passing The Arc, the offer is on Friday 29 July, and you can grab yourself an americano or tea! So don’t miss out on that.

It’s important to have friends around you, Friendships have a huge impact on your mental health and happiness. Good friends relieve stress, provide comfort, and joy, and prevent loneliness and isolation. Without this, you are more prone to mental health issues. Here are some other ways you can get involved

  • Ring up a friend and have a chat
  • Reach out to someone, or an old friend you haven’t spoken to in a while
  • Think about what unites people
  • Check on your neighbour
