Lifechanging opportunities for local people

Our Skills and Personal Development team has recently supported seven local people to take part in Global Wind Organisation training and secure industry specific interviews, with a potential starting salary of £40,000.
In partnership with National Employer Training (NET) in Grimsby, this training was part of a drive to prepare individuals for entry into the wind energy sector, supporting the renewable energy revolution in the area.
In a first for North Lincolnshire, our partnership with NET enabled local individuals to access this free Green Skills Bootcamp training, provided over three weeks by Maersk.
Ahead of the training, which took place at CATCH in Immingham, 22 people were interviewed by the Skills and Personal Development Team, with 12 being shortlisted for an interview with Maersk. Of these 12, seven were given the opportunity to complete the training. Elements of the highly physical training included Basic Technical Training, Advanced Rescue Training, Sea Survival, and Rope Access Training at Heights.
At the end of the training, attendees will be offered an interview with a range of employers in the wind energy sector, facilitated by Maersk. The course supports the government’s aim of investing in green energy and contributes to a sustainable and resilient future for all.
Aaron Odlin, who attended the training, said: “The GWO training was an opportunity that really appealed to me having previously worked in the construction industry. I would like to thank the Skills and Personal Development team for their professionalism and support throughout the process.
“Every step of the way was explained to me and the interviews given to me by Skills and Personal Development Coaches helped me to know what to expect during my interview with Maersk. I was luckily selected to attend the three-week course at CATCH in Immingham and really enjoyed the experience. I am now looking forward to working in the Wind Turbine Industry.”
Pete Tedde, Employment Support and Life Coach Lead at Ongo, said: “It’s fantastic that we have had the opportunity to offer this course to seven local people.
“The starting salary of the positions that these individuals can access on completion of the course is for some of them, lifechanging.
“The Skills and Personal Development team here at Ongo work with lots of different training organisations to provide opportunities such as this one to local people, and it’s a privilege to do so.”
Between 2024 and 2025, the Skills and Personal Development team, with the help of Amanda Baker from the Next Level Project, has supported 717 people to develop their confidence and skills and access different opportunities. This includes 229 people now in sustainable employment.
