Local businesses attend our mental health event
We hosted a mental health event for local businesses to attend on Friday 8 October at the Wortley House Hotel in Scunthorpe.
The event was held to come together in support of the subject as individuals and employers, raise awareness and promote projects that specialise in providing support.
Funded by us and HSBC bank, around 80 people attended on the day, representing various businesses from the region.
Along with networking opportunities, talks were given from those who had received support from us, videos were shown and entertainment including a comedian and magician were part of the day.
Matt Penn, Author and founder of the Matt Penn Initiative spoke at the event. He commented: “I am so passionate about getting the word out there about my story and what support is available, so I was more than happy to be a speaker.
“I’ve been to Ongo and have seen first-hand the great work they do, and if that was available to me when I was recovering, it would have made my journey a lot easier.
“We need to end the stigma, that’s why I share my story so hopefully I encourage and inspire others to get help and see that mental health struggles are normal and help is out there.”
We have three projects that focus on mental health support (Looking Up, Endeavour and Ongo Talk), so that there is something for everyone. Each has specialist life coaches and counsellors to improve confidence, skills and overall wellbeing.
These project are available to individuals, but also work with businesses to provide support to employees that may be struggling.
Hayley Cullen, Operations Manager at Ongo said: “It has been brilliant to get so many people together to focus on such an important topic. I’m overwhelmed with the response we’ve had and am very proud of my team for organising.
“Today was about shining light on the projects out there, and getting businesses together to show their support, and understand what’s available to make sure customers and employees get access to help they need.
“If you are struggling with your mental health, please get in touch with us. We can help, no matter what stage in life you’re at.”
Julie Ashcroft, Local Director at HSBC Scunthorpe commented: “We are really proud to be sponsoring this fantastic Ongo event today supporting mental health together and have really enjoyed the day.”
