CELEBRATIONS will be taking place on Thursday 20th April to mark 50 years since the flats at Market Hill were opened.

We will be working alongside residents living in the Market Hill area to host a 1960’s themed party taking place at CC’s Doubles Bar between 2-4pm, including a free buffet, disco, and an optional fancy dress competition.

Bethany Smith, Customer Engagement Officer, said: “We’re really looking forward to celebrating this milestone with our tenants. There have been lots of changes over the years and the party will be a great opportunity to reflect and look at how things have changed in the Market Hill area, and celebrate its 50th birthday.

“The tenants involved in the planning of this event have worked really hard to make what we hope will be a fun afternoon. It will be great to see lots of people getting involved in the birthday celebrations.”

Market Hill opened in October 1966 and has seen vast improvements over the years including a £165 million regeneration project to improve all the flats and communal areas. The Market Hill Resident Association received funding towards the end of 2016 to be able to hold a birthday celebration for residents living in the area.

This isn’t the only milestone being celebrated this year; we celebrated our 10th anniversary in February. We will be continuing the celebrations throughout the year with various birthday themed events, including our annual Ongo Carnival, neighbourhood pride events and the Dine & Dance.
