Meet our new Head of Maintenance & Building Safety

Jordan will support us on our journey to improve our maintenance services, helping to deliver our aims of being a great landlord, being customer focused and being aware of our growth and sustainability as an organisation.
Previous roles/experience?
I have worked in property services my whole career, and within the social housing sector for the past 17 years, I have undertaken all aspects of property services management and most recently as Head of Property Services at Norwich City Council.
Why did you decide to join Ongo?
Ongo appeared to me to be a forward thinking and innovative organisation with a passion for growth. I have also collaborated with colleagues of Ongo Homes in the past who have praised the work culture within the organisation.
What are your main responsibilities?
As the Head of Maintenance & Building Safety at Ongo my main responsibilities will include, ensuring the highest standards of health & safety, delivering a top quartile performing repairs and maintenance service, shaping service delivery to meet the requirements of the Social Housing Regulation Act and tenant needs, ensuring value for money in the delivery of maintenance activities and ensuring a positive work culture within the service.
What teams do you manage and how many people?
As the Head of Maintenance & Building Safety at Ongo I will provide leadership to the maintenance & building safety teams, these teams currently have circa 95 people collectively.
What are your key priorities over the next three months?
- My key priorities over the first three months at Ongo are to fully embed within the team and build positive relationships across the whole organisation, understand fully the roles and responsibilities of team members and how everyone contributes to the success of the service.
- Assess the current performance of the service and create a plan to address areas where improvement may be required.
- Understand current communication protocols and build on these to ensure effective two-way communication throughout the service.
- By focusing on these priorities, I hope to build a solid foundation for long-term impact while ensuring short-term alignment and trust.
What are you most excited about in your new role?
I’m excited about a fresh challenge and meeting new passionate colleagues who share the same passion for delivering social housing as I do.
What do you think will be your biggest challenge/s?
Over recent years the social housing sector has faced unprecedented challenges, these have included the introduction of the Building Safety Act, the Social Housing Regulation Act, a cost of living crisis and skills shortages within the sector to name a few, and this has made delivering high performing services extremely challenging. However the use of technology and its advancement in the sector has also significantly increased in recent years and this combined with passionate employees will help us meet and overcome these challenges.
What is your favourite thing about the housing industry?
I would say the people are my favourite thing about social housing, as I have said I’ve worked within the industry for 17 years and something that has been consistent throughout is the passion of the people delivering the services.
