Seven brand new accessible bungalows have been built and handed over to families with additional needs, across six sites in North Lincolnshire.
These homes are part of a partnership between us and the North Lincolnshire Council, built by Moore’s Facilities Management, to provide much needed accessible housing in the region, for families to live independently in suitable homes for their needs.
They are a mix of two, three and four bedroom bungalows, and along with being fully wheelchair accessible, all seven were built with an en-suite wet room and open plan design.
In total, the project cost £1,182,331.80 with North Lincolnshire Council contributing £266,875 towards the homes and the Government agency Homes England putting up funding of £350,000.
The two first homes on Plymouth Road, Scunthorpe were handed over in March last year, with two more on East Parade, Brigg and Marlow Road, Scunthorpe completing in April 2019.
The final four bedroom bungalow on Holgate Road, Scunthorpe was handed over to a family before Christmas.
A tenant living in one of our bungalows, said: “I moved in my new home in June as my previous home wasn’t suitable anymore.
“The best bit about this home is the space I’ve got. I’m so much happier here and have so much space now, and having an en-suite has really helped. Ongo has supported me so much and I’m really grateful for my new home.”
Steve Hepworth, Chief Exec at Ongo said: “I’ve visited some of the families as they were moving in, and it’s been great to hear how much a difference these homes are making to people’s lives.
“There is a need for more specialist housing in our area, and we will continue to work with our partners to provide more of these types of homes in the future.”
All seven bungalows have been jointly funded by Ongo, North Lincolnshire Council and Homes England.
Cllr Rob Waltham, Leader of North Lincolnshire Council, said: “This investment will help support a number of individuals and families with additional needs to live in appropriate housing constructed to meet their personal circumstances. Working with Ongo and the Governments’ Homes and Communities Agency we have provided much-needed purpose-built homes for people, to enable them to live independently, safe and well.
“Having listened to the experiences of some tenants, it’s fair to say that without this investment in appropriate housing, permanent care may have been the only option, so this money well spent.”
