My case study – Tyler Brackenbury
Q1. What was your apprenticeship in and why did you choose this one?
My apprenticeship was working in the maintenance team at Ongo doing plastering and construction.
I chose to do this because I was already working as a plasterer at the time, but decided I wanted to gain the knowledge and experience as well as gaining a qualification.
When I applied for the job at Ongo I did have another job offer to work with a plasterer, this was full time and the money was better but after weighing it up, I decided working for Ongo and gaining the experience and qualifications it would be more beneficial for me in the long run.
Q2. What experience did you gain from your apprenticeship and how has your apprenticeship benefited you?
I gained all the experience across different trades as well as learning about inspecting brickwork, which I wouldn’t have been able to do if I’d not done this apprenticeship.
I am now going on to doing locksmiths training, which is an additional qualification.
Q3. What was the outcome at the end of your apprenticeship?
At the end of my apprenticeship I was lucky enough to be given a full time position working within the maintenance team at Ongo. My role involves plastering, inspecting brickwork and slabbing.
Q4. What advice would you give someone considering an apprenticeship?
Just go for it! Put all your efforts in and you will be rewarded with knowledge and experience – I haven’t looked back!
