New waste collection points and better recycling for Our tenants

We have launched a new project, giving tenants better options to manage their waste and recycle more easily, creating cleaner and safer communities.

Previously, in areas using traditional black bag collections, tenants had limited opportunities to separate waste. This often led to overflowing rubbish, untidy streets and issues with fly-tipping, impacting how neighbourhoods looked and felt.

To address this, we, in partnership with North Lincolnshire Council, has introduced new communal waste collection points. These allow tenants to dispose of and separate different types of waste responsibly, while also helping communities prepare for new waste legislation coming into force on 6 April 2026.

The pilot scheme at Padstow Walk in Scunthorpe and Day Close in Keadby has already made a noticeable difference, creating spaces that feel safer, tidier and more welcoming.

At Padstow Walk in particular, the new collection points have eliminated previous fly-tipping hotspots, helping restore a sense of pride among tenants.

Following the success of the pilot, Ongo plans to roll out the new waste collection points to more neighbourhoods currently using black bag collections, giving even more tenants the opportunity to benefit.

Steve Gilmour, Neighbourhood Services Team Leader at Ongo said: “This project is about making a real difference to our tenants’ everyday lives. Cleaner, tidier spaces help create pride in where people live, and we’ve already seen the positive impact this can have.

“We’re proud to be working with North Lincolnshire Council to deliver a solution that supports our communities and helps tenants to take an active role in looking after their neighbourhood.”
