North Lincolnshire Community Champion Awards

We’ve sponsored the North Lincolnshire Community Champion Awards for a few years now, and this year was as inspiring as ever to see all the amazing things local people are doing for our community.

‘Adult Male Volunteer of the Year’ and ‘Adult Female Volunteer of the Year’ are the two categories we sponsored at the awards, with Calvin Taylor Lee and Jean Boardman being crowned winners for the work they do in their communities.

Calvin runs a successful photography company, and in his spare time he raises money for Scunthorpe General Hospital. His Christmas Light Spectacular where he decorated his Morris Minor in Christmas lights for people to have photos with for a donation, raised lots of money and even made the national headlines. He also offers family photo shoots for families with children that have complex needs, as well as supporting the Maternity Bereavement Suite.

Jean is seen as the ‘unpaid warden’ where she lives, and all the residents look to her for advice and support and to talk to about any problems they may have. She also organises events and social activities such as themed nights, trips out and cooking meals for groups of residents. As well as this, she maintains all the garden areas so they’re nice for everyone to enjoy.

A group of staff went along to the awards to represent Ongo and meet the nominees from the evening.

Lee Coulson, our Head of Commercial enjoyed the evening; “It was a fantastic event, and really showcased all the amazing things happening in our community by people giving up their time to support others.

“This was my first time attending this event and it was great to represent Ongo and meet the nominees up for the awards we sponsor.”
