On Sunday 8 October, two members from our Bike Project completed the Trent to Trent Road Sportive in aid of Prostate Cancer.

John Cavill, Learning & Growing Project Manager here at Ongo and Lee Hargreaves, an Ongo volunteer took on the 35 mile bike ride challenge, organised by local company Rusty’s Cycles.

The route took riders through West Butterwick, Gainsborough, West Stockwith and various other locations throughout North Lincolnshire.  The Ongo riders completed the loop in a time of 2 hours and 13 minutes.

Lee, 26 said: “I’ve been volunteering on the Bike Project for around eight weeks now and I’m really enjoying it. John has taught me so much since I started and I’ve been able to meet new people which has helped me lots with my confidence.

“With my disability, the bike ride was a huge challenge for me, but John gave me lots of support throughout the race and we were able to complete it in good time. I’m looking forward to doing more events like this in the future.”

John Cavill, Learning & Growing Project Manager, said: “The Bike Project is very successful in giving our clients the knowledge and skills they need to get back into employment.

“Having sessions each week means we get to know the volunteers and can fully understand what training and support they need. They can come and build a bike up, and at the end they get to keep, which also helps with transport to work.

“If you’re currently unemployed and think the Bike Project could help you, get in touch with our Employment Support Team.”
