Ongo Homes fire safety

Ongo Homes fire safety Image

Following the fire which happened at a high rise block of flats in London on 14 June, we wanted to offer some reassurance and information to our tenants. We’ve been in touch with all of our residents in our high rise block of flats about systems and checks in place that safeguard them.

Humberside Fire and Rescue will be visiting all of our high rise blocks, but this is not something to be alarmed about. It is to offer extra reassurance for tenants living there.

How we protect you, our tenants

  • All our blocks have recently had up to date and effective fire detection, emergency lighting and alarm systems installed.
  • As part of our management of the buildings, there are lots of checks and services we carry out on a regular basis. Each building has a full fire risk assessment carried out annually by an independent consultant (Fire Industry Specialists Limited). This assessment is to check that all our systems are appropriate and our inspections are up to date. It also checks that there are no issues within the buildings that could increase the risk of fire.
  • We also work closely with Humberside Fire and Rescue to make sure we’re maintaining the correct level of fire management standards.
  • We comply with all mandatory fire regulations.
  • There is a fire evacuation plan for each building. We will be reminding our tenants living in each block of their plan.

The types of checks we carry out at all four of our high rise blocks to safeguard residents from fire risk are listed as below.

What your responsibility is as an Ongo Homes tenant

  • Make sure communal areas are clear from any of your belongings – these could be a fire hazard and dangerous in the event of a fire
  • Do not tamper with smoke, heat detectors or sounders in your flat
  • When a fire drill is carried out, evacuate the building using the stairs if you are physically able to do so
  • We keep an up to date list of all residents living in our high rise buildings. This includes any mobility issues that we should be aware of in case of emergency. Please contact us if your circumstances change (you’re no longer able to use the stairs for example)

What you should do in case of fire

Follow the fire evacuation plan for your building.
