Social value ‘not an optional extra’ for businesses working with us
We have introduced a new Core 4 Social Value Model, to make sure every business we work with plays an active role in supporting local communities and improving the lives of customers.
The model sets out clear expectations for contractors, partners, and suppliers, that social value is not an optional extra but a key part of how contracts are delivered. The Core 4 Model focuses on four priority areas:
- Community and people – delivering meaningful, visible projects chosen directly from community‑led initiatives
- Environment and sustainability – protecting neighbourhoods, reducing fuel poverty, and improving green spaces
- Employment and skills – creating opportunities for local people through jobs, apprenticeships, and training
- Supply chain and economic gains – ensuring financial contributions stay local and directly support community projects
Josh Harris, Social Value Specialist said: “We believe social value should be a fundamental part of doing business, not a box‑ticking exercise. The Core 4 model is about making sure the organisations we work with are just as committed as we are to giving something back.
“Every contract awarded should help strengthen communities, support local people, and improve everyday life for our customers.”
The launch of Core 4 builds on a strong track record of successful social value activity delivered in partnership with our suppliers and communities.
Recent examples include the Improving Lives project with local supplier South Bank Carpets, to provide tenants with free flooring. This supported 44 homes in six months, exceeding its target.
Contributions have also benefited Myos House, our specialist dementia care scheme, funding gardening equipment, bingo prizes and creative resources to enhance residents’ wellbeing.
This community impact is gaining wider recognition. In March 2026, we were shortlisted for a Corporate Social Responsibility Initiative award for Ongo Carnival, our flagship free community event that has welcomed tens of thousands of people over the years.
Josh added: “Our customers and communities tell us what they need, and Core 4 gives businesses a clear, structured way to help meet those needs. When organisations work with Ongo, they’re not just delivering a service, they’re investing in people, places, and futures.”
We will embed the Core 4 model into procurement and contract management processes, ensuring social value delivery is measured, transparent, and aligned with community priorities.
