Stoptober success as we help more than 100 people take steps towards a smoke-free future

We’ve supported 128 people across North Lincolnshire to improve their health during this year’s Stoptober campaign.

Working alongside Public Health England and North Lincolnshire Council, our Wellbeing Team spent October out in the community, visiting workplaces, attending events, and providing free advice and support to colleagues, tenants, and local residents looking to quit smoking.

Stoptober is a national campaign that encourages smokers to quit for the month of October, helping them take the first steps towards a healthier lifestyle.

During this year’s campaign alone, we supported more than 100 people through our Swap to Stop programme and weekly stop smoking sessions, with eight successful quitters already recorded.

Since launching our stop smoking service, we’ve seen some fantastic results, including:

  • 293 people signing up for support
  • 137 successful quitters
  • 670 people accessing support

When combined with Project 2 figures, those totals rise to:

  • 394 people signed up for support
  • 151 successful quitters
  • 1,012 people accessing support

One of those to benefit from the service was Dawn Harvey from Wren, who said: “Carol and Jo from the stop smoking team had a stall at our workplace where a few colleagues decided we should support each other and give it a go. Carol and Jo have been incredibly supportive and enthusiastic, helping us through the hard times and cravings. I would highly recommend anyone thinking about quitting to speak to these lovely ladies and take the plunge, just like I did.”

Our Wellbeing Team offers a range of free support services, including:

  • Free nicotine replacement products
  • One-to-one support and advice
  • A friendly and understanding team
  • Ongoing support with no pressure or judgement

Carol Richardson, Stop Smoking Lead, said: “We’re incredibly proud of the difference we’ve made during Stoptober and throughout the year. Quitting smoking isn’t easy, but having the right support can make a real difference.

“Whether someone is taking their first step towards quitting or they’ve tried before and want to give it another go, we’re here to help. Every person we support is another positive step towards healthier individuals, families, and communities.”

Our Wellbeing Team continues to offer free stop smoking support all year round for anyone looking to quit.
