The Arc has pledged to use only 100% recyclable products in their cafe when it opens in May 2018.

Based in Westcliff Scunthorpe, it will be the first cafe in the area to make this promise to support using recyclable goods in support of a national #PassOnPlastic campaign to reduce the amount of waste going to landfill each year.

The Arc is a brand new community hub which is part of our £9million regeneration project in Westcliff, Scunthorpe. The project will see 41 new homes, a large One Stop convenience store, pharmacy, three retail units and The Arc being built, which will completely transform the area.

Within The Arc will be a cafe, enterprise zone, preschool, training centre, youth zone and a number of rooms that will be available for hire.

In plans made for the cafe, it will have 100% recyclable takeaway coffee cups, bags and food containers. To reduce the number of plastic bottles being sold, they will also have a water fountain to encourage people to refill their bottles.

Jan Williams, Head of Community Development, said: “The environment and supporting our planet is such a huge issue on the national and international agenda at the moment, so it is brilliant we’re able to do our bit to support it.

“We will be looking at other ways we can support the environment once The Arc is open, including selling branded eco friendly merchandise such as reusable water bottles and shopping bags.”

This isn’t the first green initiative for us however. Our Choose to Reuse second hand furniture store has prevented 208 tonnes of old furniture from going to landfill since opening in 2013. Our new HQ will also be energy efficient, with solar panels fitted on the roof which will generate some of the power to run the building. It will also have ground/air source to supplement the gas boilers and will use LED lighting.
