The Viking Centre celebrates 11 years of supporting the community
This month, The Viking Centre is celebrating 11 years of making a difference in Barton-upon-Humber. Based on Caistor Road, the centre has become a valued community hub, bringing people together and providing support, opportunities, and activities for local residents of all ages.
Since opening its doors in 2015, The Viking Centre has supported over 500 people annually through mentoring, employment advice, training, and personal development. More than 100 residents enjoy trips and days out each year – many experiencing new adventures with their families for the very first time.
Free activities for young people, clean up days, campaigns to improve health and wellbeing, a free teatime and breakfast club, big trips out and the opening of a brand-new café are just some of the things on offer.
Grace Woolley, Viking Centre Co-ordinator, said: “I’m incredibly proud of everything we’ve achieved over the past 11 years. One of my favourite memories is our very first street party, where more than 250 people came together to celebrate. Having Nancy Birtwhistle judge our bake-off made it even more special, and it was amazing to see so many people taking pride in their community.”
Kerry Copson, Community Development Manager, said: “Looking back over the past 11 years, my favourite thing has been seeing both the centre and the team grow. Everyone is passionate about making a difference and ensuring local people can access a wide range of support, activities and opportunities. I’d like to say a huge thank you to the team for their continued hard work, commitment and dedication.”
