After another year of our community grant scheme, seven local community groups in North Lincolnshire have been successful in their bids for funding.

In total, £10,155 has been awarded to support local groups doing great things in the community. These groups are:

  • Well Minds Project
  • 1st Kirton Scouts
  • Gooch Judo Kwai
  • Starlight Arts
  • Changing Lives CIC
  • Riddings Brigade
  • Scunthorpe Samaritans

The funding will support groups to continue operating in the local area, hold activities, contribute to running costs, buy new equipment and bring improvements to their facilities.

This year 19 video applications were submitted in the hope of being picked. These were looked over and ranked by a panel made up of our staff, tenants and Board members.

James Main, Chair of the Ongo Communities Board, said: “Running this scheme is one of my favourite parts of the job, and I’m really excited that we’ve made the commitment to keep it running it until at least 2022.

“Each year we seem to get even more amazing applications, which is just fantastic. We’re delighted knowing that the extra bit of funding will make a huge difference to the lives of local people, young and old.

“We understand that the current situation makes it difficult for groups to keep running, but we also know how important they will be once we start to get back to normal. We’re really proud we could support seven groups in total, and we can’t wait to support more in the years to come.”

Jo Wagstaff from the Changing Lives Project said: “I’m so happy to secure the funding, as it’s not always easy to get a hold of help. This was such an easy and accessible way to apply for funding.”

“We have a sensory space for the children that come to our facility and now that we have secured this funding we can buy more equipment. Last year we helped 90 families and with us being the only provision for this and now we can do even more.”

A celebration event was scheduled to take place for successful groups, but due to the coronavirus outbreak this was cancelled and we are making plans for this to take place virtually.
