We are working on a pilot project to install environmental sensors to 80 of our homes, to identify any triggers in conditions that cause damp and mould.

The HomeLINK sensors by Aico will pick up on several indoor environmental risks and send alerts to customers. Those include damp and mould, poor indoor air quality and ventilation, carbon monoxide and cold homes.

This project is part of a wider approach by us to tackle the issue of damp and mould in our homes. So far 70 sensors have been installed.

Evelina Paulauskaite, Research and Development Engineer at Ongo said: “As we know, damp and mould is caused by excess moisture, so for these sensors to be able to pick up on that and inform customers, it makes such a difference in educating and preventing.

“So far we’ve had some great feedback from those using the sensors. We will continue with installations and data monitoring, helping our tenants to prevent indoor environmental issues.

“Next steps are to hold some focus groups with participating tenants so they can share their experiences after using smart sensors for some time.

“I’d like to say a huge thank you to those customers who have, and are still to take part in this project, without you it wouldn’t be possible and we appreciate your help.”

Along with this technology, Ongo has launched two other pilot projects using smart home technology, as part of their mission to be Net Zero by 2050 and invest in our existing homes.
