We secure funding for extra youth activities

We have a project which supports young people in Scunthorpe and Barton-Upon-Humber that has been successful in its application to secure £8,000 from the National Lottery Awards.

The National Lottery offers a range of funding from £300 to £10,000 to support and improve local communities. They have teams across the UK, and each year give out more than £500million.        

The grant will be split equally between The Arc in Scunthorpe and The Viking Centre in Barton-Upon-Humber. Both are based in areas with low employment rates compared to the national average, and have had high levels of anti-social behaviour.
Activities, which will be arranged during the school holidays, include trips out, craft sessions, sports, themed Halloween, Easter and Christmas events, and resources for youth clubs.

Healthy eating and cooking clubs will also be planned in to provide nutritional advice, life skills, and help combat ‘school holiday hunger’.

Kerry Copson, Community Development Manager commented: “We have a fantastic team of youth mentors that provide one to one support, fun activities, healthy meals and a place for young people to go.

“They were over the moon to hear that we’d been successful for the funding, and are busy planning a calendar of events.

“In the area, school holiday hunger is a real problem for families who normally receive free school meals, so knowing we can help towards this is great too. We’d like to say a massive thank you to National Lottery for their support.”
