We support World Suicide Prevention Day

We are supporting World Suicide Prevention Day, with a wellbeing walk for all and promotion of their mental health support and counselling service.

The national day aims to show that talking about difficult feelings, including suicidal thoughts, doesn’t have to be scary. The day is symbolised by wearing a yellow ribbon.

According to Samaritans, 1 in 5 of people will experience suicidal thoughts at some point in their lives. But a recent poll found that only 45% people feel comfortable talking to family and friends about suicidal thoughts, compared to 74% who feel comfortable talking about mental health.

By talking more openly, people can express how they feel and get the support they need. It could even save a life.

Today we hosted a wellbeing walk to bring people together, share stories, break the stigma and promote the support they offer, from counselling and confidence boosting courses, to free training and employment support.

The walk began at The Tile Works in Barton, with 25 people attending.

Emma Mcleary, Mental Health Specialist said: “We are hosting a wellbeing walk again this year to support those who are struggling with their mental health and remember those who we have unfortunately lost.

“Through services like Ongo Talk, we can help to support people through their toughest times.

“We’ve seen a fantastic turnout, despite the weather, and I’m very thankful to everyone who could make it.”

Ongo thanks all those who attended and helped to make this year’s walk a memorable and impactful event for all.

Ongo Talk is the name of their expert counselling service, available for both businesses and individuals. Their in-house trained counsellors offer a variety of services including individual, family or couples counselling for very affordable prices.
