WeCare day in Belton

On Friday 12 October, more than 30 of our staff and volunteers took part in a second #WeCare day on Ashtree Close in Belton.

#WeCare day was created by Placeshapers, which is a national network of more than 100 community based housing associations. The aim is to encourage members to volunteer time to give back to their communities.

Activities on the day included litter picking, fence painting, gardening and restoring broken fence panels. There were also skips available to encourage local residents to clear up their own homes are gardens.

Steve Gilmour, Estate Services Team Leader here at Ongo said:“The first #WeCare day held in Winterton was a huge success, so we’re delighted we were able to replicate it in Belton. It’s days like this that make me love my job, and the organisation I work for.

“As well as all of the Ongo staff that took part, we’d like to say a huge thank you to Scunthorpe’s Buildbase, the Probation Service, and Veolia Waste Management for their continued support and commitment to improving communities.”

Our Housing Team picked Ashtree Close for a makeover and launched a vote on our Facebook page with a list of five other places to pick from, so that local residents could have their say. After counting votes, Marmion Drive/Hiles Avenue in Winterton came out on top. This is something we’d like to do again in the future, so keep a look out to see how you can vote for your area.
