An ambitious house building programme has made significant progress in 2018 for us.

The programme which aims to build 1,250 by 2026 is well underway with 644 brand new homes either completed or started being built during 2018.

A mixture of tenure types have been built including rented and shared ownership homes.

106 homes have been completed this year, with tenants now living in brand new homes in Scunthorpe, Harworth, North Hykeham, Nettleham, Thorne and Gainsborough and Doncaster. The homes are houses and bungalows ranging from one to three bedrooms.

We’re also currently building our first homes for outright sale that will be complete in summer 2019. These homes are in Blyton and are a mixture of two, three and four bedroom houses and bungalows. Any profit made from the sale of these homes will be invested back into homes and the local North Lincolnshire community.

Another first for us to come in 2019 is our first site of rent to buy homes. These homes are built with the aim to help people get on the property ladder but don’t have a deposit saved. People living in these homes will rent them at less than market rent for up to five years, and save a deposit in that time, they will then have the option to purchase the home. The 14 two and three bedroom homes are in the popular area of Ashby, close to schools, shops and other amenities making them ideal first time homes.

Martin Phillips, Development Manager, said: “We’ve had a really busy and exciting year with the progress of our developments. The Arc and new shops in Westcliff opening was a huge highlight for us in 2018 and it’s been great to see so many people enjoying the new facilities.

“We’ve won our first building design award this year which was a highlight for me, and have developed specialist care and supported housing, as well as all the new homes across the region.

“The Westcliff precinct has now been fully demolished to make way for more new family homes in the area, and we can’t wait to see that project complete in 2020.”

Homes currently in progress and due for completion in the coming months are in Scunthorpe, Ashby, Brigg, Balby, Blyton and Kirton Lindsey. These are a mixture of one to four bedroom houses, apartments and bungalows. All of which will support the need for affordable homes in North Lincolnshire.

This building programme has meant significant work for local contractors, and additional jobs for local people. Businesses including GS Kelsey, TG Sowerby’s Ltd and MFM Developments have all worked in partnership with us on these projects. All of the companies have even recruited apprentices to work on our sites, giving them valuable hands on experience.

Steve Sowerby, MD of TG Sowerby’s Ltd, said: “We’re pleased to be working with Ongo, to be delivering their new housing as part of the Westcliff Regeneration Project, as well as their extremely prestigious market housing site in Blyton.

“Working on these projects has already allowed us to offer apprenticeships to two bricklaying students from North Lindsey College, as well as a permanent employment position with our firm to a Joiner from Blyton. This work will allow us to offer further employment and apprenticeship opportunities with our firm in 2019.”
