A Hull University student is undertaking a placement with our Communities team, based in Barton.

It’s the first time we’ve placed a current university student, and is something we’re definitely keen to continue with.

Working 18 hours a week, 23 year old Hull University student Abbie Hill will be based at our Viking Centre in Barton on Humber. Her placement will see her supporting the team at the with their events including the weekly job club, children’s activities and the youth club sessions.

Abbie Hill is studying Youth Work and Community Development at Hull University and as part of her course has to take part in a work placement. Her placement for this year much be community based, which is why she approached us.

Grace Woolley will be her mentor whilst she carries out the placement, she said: “We’re really pleased we could offer Abbie a placement here with us and we look forward to her time at the Viking Centre.

“We want Abbie to get as much hands on experience as possible to support her degree. It’s so important nowadays when looking for a job to have experience as well as the qualifications to back it up.”

Abbie Hill, student placement, said: “I’m really enjoying my placement so far and it’s good to get an understanding of how places like the Viking Centre support people and it’s really interesting to meet different people and get hands on experience.

“Being on a placement gives me the experience that I wouldn’t get from University itself and is great to be able to do this locally. Everything I’m learning while I’m working here I can apply to my studying at University.”
