On Monday 14 May we are getting involved in #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek with a week of activities for staff and tenants.

The national campaign, set up by the Mental Health Foundation will this year focus on stress and how it impacts our lives. According to their website, research shows that two thirds of us experience a mental health problem in our lifetimes, and stress is a key factor in this.

Throughout the week there’ll be a yoga class for staff, a healthy food lesson with tenants at the Viking Centre in Barton and mindfulness sessions for tenants in Westcliff.

Other activities include an event to raise money for Scunthorpe Samaritans, where our staff are holding a cake sale and will have the chance to hear from Samaritans volunteers about the work they do to support people.

Nichola Hunt, PA to the Chief Executive, and keen fundraiser for Scunthorpe Samaritans said: “Within Ongo we have a group, made up of a member of staff from every department, that get together to plan health and wellbeing events throughout the year. We know that mental health affects everyone, so raising awareness and talking about it is something we had to support.

“The activities we’ve planned throughout the week will not only allow us to promote the support that’s out there for staff, but also to our tenants and the wider community.

“We’re also proud to continue working with Scunthorpe Samaritans to tell people about the amazing work they do. If you would like more information about the services they provide, visit their website.”
