37 new homes on Station Road, Scunthorpe complete
A £5.2 million project to build 37 new homes has completed on Station Road in Scunthorpe this month.
This includes of a combination of two, three and four-bedroom homes for affordable rent, with five also available for rent to buy.
Living in a rent to buy property means that for the first five years, tenants pay less than market rent – to allow time to save towards a deposit. It’s a national initiative to support people to get on the property ladder that do not have enough saved.
Each has off-road parking, electric vehicle charging points and patio doors onto a private garden, along with extra environmental features including bird boxes and hedgehog runs.
Handovers were phased, with some tenants in for their first Christmas and others starting the New Year off with an exciting new place to call home.
Anthony Toner, who moved in this month, commented: “It’s perfect for me and I couldn’t be happier. It’s close to work and the centre of town so it’s ideal.
“I think rent to buy is brilliant as it allows you to save a deposit whilst renting. That’s what I’m most excited about, one day being able to buy my home.
“The homes are all lovely, I didn’t need to do anything apart from move my things in and get settled.”
Georgie McGuire, Development Project Manager at Ongo said: “For us, and most of the tenants we’ve spoken to, this one is all about location. It’s in the heart of Scunthorpe, close to rail links and everything else you’d ever need.
“Offering more rent to buy homes is so exciting for us too. It’s chaos on launch day when people can put their name down, we always have five times the amount of applications to homes.
“That for us shows how important it is to build new homes and offer different options. This is a lovely site and it has been great to welcome people in.”
The development is funded jointly by us and Homes England, with G.S Kelsey appointed as the main contractors on site.
