Eid Celebration at Ongo House
On Tuesday 24 March, Our Resettlement team hosted a welcoming Eid celebration at Ongo House, bringing together families supported through the Resettlement Scheme. It was a brilliant chance to meet people face‑to‑face, offer a warm hello, and get a better feel for the work happening in this area.
As part of the celebration, the team ran a cake sale, and thanks to everyone’s generosity (and sweet tooth), they raised £305.42. Every penny has been donated to City of Sanctuary – North Lincolnshire Sanctuary Group, a local charity doing important work with refugees and people seeking asylum.
A bit about City of Sanctuary – North Lincolnshire
The North Lincolnshire Sanctuary Group is a small, volunteer‑led organisation that focuses on making sure people arriving in our area feel safe, supported and genuinely welcomed. Their work includes:
- Offering friendship and practical help to families from countries such as Afghanistan, Syria, Iraq and Turkey
- Providing donated household items to help people settle into new homes
- Running community groups like the International Ladies Group and Cooking Collective, which help build confidence and connection
- Working with local partners, schools and faith groups to create a culture of hospitality across the region
They’re part of the wider City of Sanctuary UK movement, which champions kindness, inclusion and the idea that every community can be a place of safety for those seeking it.
