Have your say on proposed changes to Home Choice Lincs
A public consultation is now open on Home Choice Lincs, the housing register and lettings system used for social housing across North and North East Lincolnshire.
Home Choice Lincs is used by local councils and housing associations to manage housing applications, assess people’s housing needs, and advertise available social housing.
When you apply, you can tell us about your housing situation and the type and location of home you’re looking for. Most available homes are advertised on the system, allowing applicants to place bids. Homes are then offered to those with the highest priority need.
What is changing?
Currently, the housing register works on a banding system, which places applicants into one of four bands:
- Band 1 – urgent or highest housing need
- Band 4 – little or no housing need
Your band is decided using the current allocations policy. The consultation is proposing major changes to how the register works, including how people qualify for social housing and how priority is given.
The proposed changes aim to:
- Put local families, workers, unpaid carers and volunteers first
- Ensure people have strong local connections to North or North East Lincolnshire
- Make the system fairer, clearer and easier to understand
- Ensure social housing goes to those who need it most
- Make the best use of the limited number of homes available
Proposals include giving greater priority to people who live, work or care for others locally, along with additional protections for care leavers, veterans and survivors of domestic abuse.
Why your views matter
Home Choice Lincs plays a vital role in helping people access social housing across northern Lincolnshire. Because these proposed changes could affect both current applicants and anyone who may need social housing in the future, it’s important that residents, tenants and colleagues share their views and help shape the final policy.
As a key partner using Home Choice Lincs to let homes, we’re keen to hear from as many tenants as possible and will also be encouraging colleagues and the wider community to take part.
Consultation details
The consultation runs from Monday 12 January to Sunday 15 March 2026 (closing at midnight).
