It’s Volunteers’ week and we’re celebrating

Volunteers’ week is an annual celebration of the contribution millions of people make across the UK through volunteering in their communities.

This year we are celebrating by saying thank you, highlighting the amazing work our volunteers do and offering the opportunity for others to get involved.

Over the last 12 months our team has worked with over 70 volunteers. All of which have gone through accredited training and have a dedicated coach to help get them into work.

To celebrate the week, we wanted to share what James had to say about his experience volunteering with us.

James Wishart has been volunteering with our Neighbourhood Services team:

“I’m loving my placement! I’ve enjoyed working alongside Dale, my mentor, and I’ve especially liked the social side of things.

“Getting out regularly has really helped me – it’s given me purpose. I’ve particularly enjoyed seeing the results of the work I’ve done, especially removing fly-tipping from my local area where I live. I can really see the difference I’ve made.

“I enjoy the feeling of being tired after a hard day’s work. It makes me feel proud. I also love seeing the before-and-after transformations – they’re really satisfying to look at.

“I’m proud of how hard I’ve worked, and I feel like I’ve had a good partnership with the team.

“Volunteering has built my confidence and improved my social skills. I’d be stuck if it wasn’t for the opportunity to volunteer. I’ve even managed to achieve more than what was on the list for the day – because this is what I feel the tenants deserve.

“Volunteering with Ongo is the best thing I’ve ever done!”

Stephen Gilmour, Neighbourhood Services Supervisor said, “Having volunteers like James in our team brings a real boost to the work we do. Their energy, fresh perspective, and commitment to making a difference are invaluable. James has shown dedication and pride in his work, and it’s been great to see how much he’s grown in confidence.

“Volunteers help us achieve more for our communities, and their contributions, big or small, leave a lasting impact. We’re proud to support them on their journey and grateful for everything they bring to the team.”
