Progress since the launch of Awaab’s Law

Since the introduction of Awaab’s Law in October, we have taken steps to strengthen our response to damp and mould across our homes, ensuring full compliance with new legislative requirements and prioritising tenant safety.

Within the first week of the launch, we received 32 new damp and mould cases, with 20 reported in the first three days.

However, this number of new cases has remained consistent at around 32 per week, indicating no major spikes.

This steady flow may reflect the proactive work we have done to raise awareness both internally and externally, alongside improvements in how cases are managed.

One of the most impactful developments has been the introduction of a new case management system. This tool is already helping the organisation meet the timescales set out in the legislation.

It’s also proving useful in tracking performance against key milestones, such as initial investigations, issuing summaries to tenants, making properties safe, and completing repairs.

The team has begun building detailed reports for damp and mould cases, which will become increasingly powerful as development continues. These reports will help ensure full compliance and provide greater transparency in how cases are handled.

Looking ahead, our damp and mould procedure is currently out for consultation. Once feedback is received and amendments are made, the procedure will be signed off and followed by a full training rollout across the organisation. This will cover Awaab’s Law, how to identify damp and mould, and reinforce our organisational response.

“We’re proud of the progress we’ve made so far,” said Mark Tasker, Damp, Mould & Disrepair Manager. “Our teams are working hard to ensure our homes are safe, healthy, and compliant. Awaab’s Law has set a new standard, and we’re committed to meeting it.”
