Seven women complete DIY skills and confidence course, thanks to Equans and Ongo partnership

Equans, one of our largest contractors, hosted a hands-on course, equipping seven women with essential household maintenance skills, boosting their confidence, and promoting independence.
Delivered in partnership with us, the course took place on Tuesday 9 September and focused on everyday tasks such as basic plumbing, decorating, and home repairs.
It was aimed at tenants and members of the community who wanted to feel more confident managing their homes and proved to be a resounding success.
Each attendee received a free toolkit upon completion, enabling them to continue building their skills at home.
Emma Patrick, Social Value Specialist at Ongo, said: “This course was about more than just DIY – it was about empowerment. We wanted to give women the tools, knowledge, and confidence to take control of their home.
“EmpowerHer was a brilliant example of how our contractors go above and beyond, and we are very thankful to Equans for their work in making this happen.”
Amy Wheatley, Assistant Social Value Manager at Equans: “We are proud to be deliver our EmpowerHer Programme in collaboration with Ongo. The skills and knowledge gained will allow independent women to create a brighter future.”
Participants praised the course for its friendly atmosphere, practical demonstrations, and supportive instructors. Here’s what some of them had to say:
Katy said: “The speakers kept people at ease and didn’t make anyone feel daft for not knowing certain things. They were knowledgeable with great, useful advice and conviction. Moving forward, I’ll be able to do things without calling a professional. I now feel reasonably confident when it comes to maintenance.”
Samantha commented:“I found the course good and now I won’t have to rely on calling people in for smaller jobs. I’ll be more confident in future.”
Leigh said: “The course was fun, friendly and informative. The toolkit will be most useful to do a few jobs I’ve been putting off.”
