Stop smoking project celebrates strong results

A stop smoking initiative delivered by the Wellbeing Team within Ongo Communities is already making a significant difference across North Lincolnshire, with engagement and quit rates surpassing expectations just months after launch.

Commissioned by the North Lincolnshire Public Health team, the programme supports residents aged 18 and over to reduce or quit smoking through personalised, accessible and free support, along with free nicotine replacement products. Since going live, the service has seen exceptional uptake and promising outcomes. As of the end of April, results include:

  • 318 people signing up for the four‑week stop smoking support
  • 136 confirmed quits, marking a major milestone for local health and wellbeing
  • 830 ‘Swap to Stop’ kits issued, helping residents reduce tobacco use and move toward a smoke‑free future. The free kits contain a USB‑charger vape, 10 flavoured liquids and one replacement pod.

These achievements highlight both the effectiveness of the service and the growing demand for tailored cessation support across the region.

“We’re incredibly proud of the progress our customers have made,” said Carol Richardson. “Every quit represents a major step forward for someone’s health, finances and overall wellbeing. There’s no better time to enquire and take back control of your own health and wellbeing.”

The stop smoking service offers one‑to‑one support, personalised quit plans and a wide range of free nicotine replacement products, including vapes, liquids, patches, gum, mouth spray, lozenges and inhalators.

Customers can mix and match products to suit their needs, helping them reduce or quit smoking at a pace that works for them. You may also be referred for Varenicline, a tablet‑based treatment available free for 12 weeks from a local pharmacy if you are assessed as suitable.
