VE Day Celebrations at Myos House

Residents and colleagues at Myos House (our dementia care building) held a special VE Day celebration today, to mark the 80th anniversary since the end of the Second World War in Europe.

On offer was entertainment from Lost Chord, food from the era and plenty of laughing, singing, and dancing.

Anita Catley, Dementia Scheme Officer here at Ongo and organiser of the event said: “It’s important that we mark days like VE Day to show our respect and honour those who fought for our freedom.

“Today, we had one resident, Tony, sharing stories about his many medals and 12 years of service which was just brilliant.

“It’s all about making memories for the residents, bringing them together, and creating special friendships. I loved seeing so many happy people today, and watching them join in makes it all worthwhile.

“A special thanks to Hales and Coultas and Ashbridge Roofing for their funding to make today possible too. “

Janette, resident at Myos House commented: “I had a marvellous time and what a wonderful job everyone has done.

“I love living at Myos House. I feel safe and comfortable in my flat. And even though I live alone, if I’m feeling down, the staff will come and get me to join in. It’s nice to know they care and notice when I’m not there. I couldn’t ask for any better.”

A live performance from Lost Chord went down particularly well, with residents joining in. Lost Chord is a charity that enhances the lives of people with dementia and neurological conditions through interactive music sessions.

Rachel Abbott, Singer said: “I am so pleased and honoured to be a part of the VE Day celebrations at Myos House.

“It’s wonderful to see everyone come alive, dancing, singing, and smiling. For a moment, we all forget our aches and pains and just enjoy a jolly old singsong together.”
